What to expect at your consultation

Knowing what will happen before you come can make your visit easier. This page explains the process from booking to the end of your consultation, what to bring and the questions patients often ask. Consultations are available in English.

What to expect at your consultation

A private practice

Dr Enis Gürsel's clinic in Nilüfer, Bursa, is a private practice. It has no agreement with SGK, the Turkish state social security system, so SGK does not pay for consultations or treatment.

We want to make this clear from the start. If you have private health insurance, please contact your insurer before your appointment to check what is covered. You are welcome to ask us about your insurance and any questions you have when you book.

How do I book?

All consultations are by appointment. To book, call +90 501 201 96 01 or send a WhatsApp message to the same number.

We plan appointments so that each patient has enough time. This means you can explain your problem without being rushed.

What happens during the consultation?

The consultation starts with listening. We talk about when your pain started, what makes it worse, whether it wakes you at night and which treatments you have already tried.

Then Dr Gürsel examines you. If needed, he looks at the painful area with ultrasound during the consultation. This shows tendons, ligaments, muscles and the area around the joint straight away.

  • Listening to your problem and your medical history
  • Physical examination: range of movement, strength and specific tests
  • Ultrasound scan, if needed
  • X-ray or MRI request, if needed
  • Explaining the diagnosis and the treatment options to you

What should I bring?

Your previous tests can help avoid repeating scans that are not needed. Please bring:

  • MRI, X-ray or CT images (on a disc, as a download link, or through e-Nabız, the Turkish online health record) and their reports
  • Reports from previous operations and hospital discharge letters
  • A list of the medicines you take, especially blood thinners
  • Blood test results, if you have them
  • Clothes that are easy to take off

Can I have an injection on the same day?

If an injection is suitable after your consultation, in many cases it can be planned for the same day. For this, the diagnosis must be clear and you must have enough information to make a decision.

The procedure may be postponed if you take blood thinners, if your diabetes is not well controlled or if there is an infection in the area. We make this decision together at the consultation.

If you have lived or been treated abroad

Please bring any previous scans and reports, even if they are in another language. Bring the images as well, not only the written report. You can also send them on WhatsApp before your visit, so that we can prepare if a procedure might be done on the same day.

Images sent by message are for information only. The treatment decision is made after your consultation.

Consultations are available in English. If you have private or international health insurance, please ask us about it when you book.

What happens after the consultation?

At the end of the consultation we explain the diagnosis, the treatment options and the possible benefits and risks of each. The right treatment for you is decided after the examination. It may be physiotherapy, an ultrasound-guided injection, radiofrequency treatment or surgery.

We make the decision together, without rushing you. If needed, we arrange a follow-up appointment.

Your questions answered

Frequently asked questions

Is SGK valid at this clinic?

No. The clinic is a private practice and has no agreement with SGK. Consultation and treatment costs are not covered by SGK.

Will my private health insurance cover the consultation?

This depends on your insurance company and the terms of your policy. Please ask your insurer what your policy covers for outpatient care. Our team can help with the documents you need.

I do not have an MRI. Do I need one before I come?

No. For many problems, the examination and ultrasound give enough information for a first assessment. If you need an MRI, it is requested after the consultation.

Can I have an injection on the same day?

If an injection is suitable, in many cases it can be planned for the same day. It may be postponed if you take blood thinners, if your diabetes is not well controlled or if there is an infection in the area.

I take blood thinners. Should I stop them?

No, do not stop your medicine on your own. Bring your list of medicines to the consultation. If you need an injection or surgery, we plan your medicine together with the doctor who prescribed it.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course. Having a relative or friend with you can make it easier to decide, especially when treatment options are discussed.

Consultation

Let's assess your pain together.

At your consultation we listen to your symptoms, examine you and, if needed, use ultrasound in the same visit. Together we then choose the treatment that suits you. Please bring any previous MRI scans, X-rays and reports.
